World's Leading Amateur Poker
League Comes to the
Best Western/Front Row
The Front Row/Best Western Pocono Inn has signed on as
a tournament venue with World Tavern Poker (WTP), the world's
leading amateur poker league. Officially ranked Fall season
WTP play at the Front Row/Best Western started just a few
weeks ago. Tournament games will be played every Tuesday
at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
"Our hotel and restaurants have always been the entertainment
hub of this area," says owner Frank Brown (Brownie). "We
wanted to do free poker in Stroudsburg better than it's ever
been done before and our new partnership with WTP is clearly
the best way to do that."
The hallmark of WTP is that play absolutely free. There
are no buy-ins and gambling is strictly forbidden. The format
allows players of all experience levels to hone their skills
and enjoy poker in a fun and relaxed setting.
The Front Row/Best Western will host two tournaments per
week, at 7:00 and 10 p.m. each Tuesday. Players receive points
rankings based on their performance. The highest ranked players
during each 12-week WTP season will advance to regional and
potentially national tournaments in which the winners receive
prestigious professional tournament entries, including entries
into World Series of Poker events. Players must pre-register
to earn rankings. Online registration can be completed here
Brownie says that the Front Row/Best Western also has
a few promotions up its sleeve.
"Each of our tournament winners will receive a gift certificate
they can use in one of our restaurants," he says. "During
the season, we'll be using our affiliation with Best Western
to its full advantage and giving away some out-of-town getaway
stays.
"Our tournament directors, Mike Beckenbach and Billy Nadeau
have also set up a promotion called Brownie's Brackets, where
players can play for a free entry in a professional tournament.
We're very excited about the possibilities. Anyone who likes
poker should definitely come down and check it out."
WTP President Mike Matsinger echoed Brownie's excitement
about bringing the game to Stroudsburg.
"We've been in the Pocono market for nearly two years
at Werry's in Marshalls Creek, the Scorecard in Wind Gap,
and Lippy's in Marshalls Creek," says Matsinger. "We believe
that being in the area's population center will expose more
people to the league and to our other Pocono venues. The
Front Row/Best Western ties everything together and we're
proud to add them to the family." |
